About Ann-Maree Morrison MBE

I was the founder and MD of Labels4Kids, a multi award winning ecommerce labelling business, for 19 years. I negotiated the sale of my own business and exited in September 2022. With my Ecommerce, Chartered Accounting and Management Consulting background I now consult and mentor in Ecommerce and Business. I have a wide background in several countries, ecommerce, startup, scale up, exit, audit, investigations and more. So now I help SMEs looking to scale, internationalise, or just work out how to run their business more efficiently.

I am a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants ANZ for services to the Chartered Accounting Profession. I am also a member of the Institute of Leadership and Management as a Business Mentor. In 2022, I was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours list for services to both Women In Business and to the Economy. This related to both ecommerce work over the years, as well as work on the economic empowerment of women ang girls with W20 UK, where I was co-chair of the UK Delegation until 2026.

I started Labels4Kids in 2004 after 3 boys drove me nuts losing their belongings. I learnt about ecommerce the hard way doing courses, learning from developers and from outsourced experts, learning quickly how to do things myself and avoid mistakes, including hiring the wrong people at times, and reading a huge amount, then getting involved on a daily basis as not just business owner but also as Ecommerce Manager, heavily involved in the day to day improvements required on the site to keep it ranking at the top of google. I also had experience with Etsy and Amazon listings. Over the years I have taught a large number of the team ecommerce and set them on their career journey. I now train those I advise in improving their business performance.

Online Retail Awards

I have had to deal with many website specifications and builds, and several platforms from Shopify to Magento 2. I really feel that knowledge is power and this needs to be passed on to help others save money and time reinventing the wheel. You cannot appoint developers if you do not know how to keep them on their toes.

I am happy to help with a short chat and if I cannot help you or feel my expertise is not right for your product or service then I will refer you on to someone who is. My network in the UK and internationally is extensive in ecommerce and business.

Examples of work that I can help with include:

  • Ecommerce platform choice
  • Ecommerce developer choice
  • Advising on ecommerce build specifications
  • Writing ecommerce build specifications
  • Hand holding and training
  • Training on SEO and tools for ecommerce
  • Referrals
  • Business growth or business operational and marketing advice
  • Mentoring – I am a business mentor and Enterprise Nation mentor, and Board 180 mentor.
  • Financial advice and review, budgeting, cash flow
  • Career advice.

01. Starting a business

If you are thinking of starting a business whether it is online or offline, i can help you work out what procedures, policies, staffing, and deals need to be put in place before you go wrong. Ask me for advice or mentoring.

02. Growing a business

Having grown my own ecommerce business, and with extensive Management Consulting and Financial background, I know the ups and downs and I am particularly strong in advising you on what you need to do for an online business, the main growth area of the economy these days. Don’t just contact a developer and HOPE everything will be ok. You need to do this right and even then there are pitfalls if you think you have hired the right person. Everyone could use some hand holding by someone who has been there and done it right. Contact me for a half day or full day, or an entire project period.

03. Online strategies

Online stategies are particularly important with a changing retail environment and the move to consumer and business spending online. Make sure you get the right advice from someone who can help hand hold you through the process or just give you a half day of advice if you need to run your strategy past someone who can recommend the right contacts and the right spending on various areas of your new or growing online business. Half day or full day rates.

Proven Success

The Numbers Don’t Lie

My own business, Labels4Kids, grew over 19 years to one of the leading online labelling companies internationally prior to the sale. Having advised the UK government and Scottish government on ecommerce strategies for businesses and entrepreneurs and the W20 for the G20 on ecommerce, entrepreneurship and the STEAM and digital gender gap, I know ecommerce. The growth in the numbers online does not lie. Some indicators shown here of Labels4Kids 2018 performance pre Covid.

One of the best decisions I have ever made for my business

I have been a member of the Scottish Ecommerce Club for 10 years and I can honestly say that it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made for my business. The ability to share ideas and learn from other ecommerce practitioners' experience has been extremely useful. I have learned a lot from my fellow members, and I have also made some great connections that have helped me grow the business. One of the things I value most about the club is the fact that it is not affiliated with any particular technology provider. This means that I can get unbiased advice from other members who have no vested interest in selling me their products or services. This has saved me a lot of time and money, and it has helped me make better decisions for the business.

I also appreciate the fact that the club is a safe space to share our mistakes and successes. It is helpful to know that I am not the only one who has made mistakes, and it is also inspiring to hear about the successes of other members. This has helped me to stay motivated and to keep moving forward with my business.

I would highly recommend the Scottish Ecommerce Club to anyone who is serious about growing their ecommerce business. It is a valuable resource that can help you save time, money, and make better decisions.
